Full member: £25 per calendar year
Associate member: £20 per calendar year
Full membership is open to those who have translated and had published a Swedish literary work in book form, or who have a portfolio of work deemed by the Committee to be equivalent.
Associate membership is open to those who have translated and had published some other Swedish work, or who have a corresponding portfolio of work, or who (at the Committee’s discretion) have an interest in the field.
See our News pages for details of some of the events and workshops we have hosted in the past. We hold an AGM every year, usually followed by a session with an invited speaker. We run hands-on translation workshops and more extensive events with invited authors, which serve to promote literature in Swedish in the UK and provide networking and continuing professional development opportunities for our members.
We have a Google group for translation-related discussion between our members.
We have close links with cultural organisations in Sweden and Finland, which result in information about and invitations to translation-related events in both countries and in conjunction with the London Book Fair.
Members have the opportunity to add their profile to our database of translators which can be searched and filtered by potential clients seeking a Swedish-English translator. Full members may upload a complete profile with details of publications which appear on our Publications page. Associate members cannot upload publications and have a more limited profile.
SELTA members are expected to be professional and courteous in their dealings with clients.
How to Join
If you are interested in joining SELTA, please fill in the form below. If you are not certain whether Full or Associate membership applies to you, fill in your translation experience and the Committee will decide which tier is the best fit for you.
Subscriptions are due on 1 January each year. Members are requested to pay by bank transfer. Details will be sent out by the Treasurer with the annual reminder. Membership will lapse if the subscription is overdue by more than three months. The membership fee of members joining after 1 September in any year will be deemed to cover both the remainder of that calendar year and the following calendar year.
On joining SELTA, you will be issued with a username and password to access the Members’ Area of the website and will be able to create and edit your profile to appear in Find a Translator. You will be invited to join the email discussion group and you will, of course, receive notice of all meetings and events organised by SELTA.
If you are having trouble logging in or have forgotten your password, send an email to the webmaster at email@example.com and we’ll get you up and running again.
