I was born in Austin, Texas, and am a US/German dual national. I have lived in Germany and Sweden for several years respectively, am the holder of a Ph.D. in German from the University of California at Berkeley, and have been based in Copenhagen since 2004. I am the translator of twenty-four published books representing fiction and nonfiction and the source languages Danish, German, and Swedish; I have translated from Danish for publication by Gads Publisher and from German and Swedish for publication by Amazon Crossing. I am a contributor to the peer-reviewed University of Florida Press journal Delos; my most recent piece in that journal is my article "Ethiopian Orthodox Churches," which appeared in the Fall 2022 issue. My work has appeared in Asymptote Journal, B O D Y, Border Crossing, Columbia Journal, Exchanges, K1N, Mayday Magazine, Newfound, Pusteblume, Storm Cellar, The Brooklyn Rail, The Cossack Review, The Literary Review, The Missing Slate, and Wilderness House Literary Review. I have extensive experience teaching at the university and upper secondary levels.
My most recently published book translation is my translation of Karsten Skjold Petersen's book Danske soldater i Vestindien (Danish Soldiers in the West Indies), which was published by Gads on 1 May 2024.
I translated the texts for the Workers Museum's exhibition Women's Lives, which runs through 1 August 2025 and has been accompanied by an extensive program of special events.
I am the copy editor of Sigge Winther Nielsen’s forthcoming book The Puzzle State: How to Govern Wicked Problems in Western Democracies (Gads).
