Fiction, Non-Fiction, UK English

Experienced translator of fiction and non-fiction from Swedish to English, writer of various books on Sweden, and language editor for Scandinavian health research institutes.

French might have been my first passion but Swedish soon became my enduring love, taking me on a world tour of translation from the jungle pow-wow of The Phantom’s Bangalia to the rum and cacao stories of real life Tobago.

Since achieving my MA in Translation at Surrey University more than twenty years ago, I’ve never ceased to be amazed at the wonderful variety of assignments that have come my way. I’ve translated authors as diverse as Björn Ranelid and Unni Drougge, been commissioned to do historical research at Riksarkivet, and won Gourmand World Cookbook awards for my translations of Swedish cookbooks on two occasions (2016 for The Magical Cuisine of Drakamöllan and 2020, for Swedish Kitchen Stories). Right now, I am working on the Maria Wern crime fiction series for Storytel.

Apart from translating, I have also written books about Sweden for the Swedish publisher, Kakao; a total of ten titles. My most recent books include Sweden – just amazing (2nd edition 2018) and Sail in on a shrimp sandwich (2017).
