Arthur Allen (b. 1994) is a British-Canadian poet and translator currently reading for a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, funded by a College Research Award from their School of Literature, Languages and Culture.
Allen's translations of the early poems of Maria Wine, forgotten doyenne of Swedish literary modernism, have appeared in many publications including; Swedish Book Review, The Bitter Oleander Vol. 27 No. 2, Fence #41, and Poetry Salzburg 39. Arthur’s translation of Wine’s poem ‘I have barely begun to build your name’ was selected by Khairani Barokka for a First Time Entrant Commendation in the Stephen Spender Trust Prize 2021.
He is also the author of Twenty Twenty: Treatments for Cut Flowers (runner-up, Erbacce Prize for Poetry 2021) and The Nurseryman (winner, Eyelands Book Awards Poetry Prize 2019).
