Privacy Notice
This notice explains how the Swedish-English Literary Translators’ Association (SELTA) handles personal information across our website and services. We value your privacy and keep data collection to an absolute minimum.
1. Browsing the Website & Cookies
We believe in privacy by design. We do not use intrusive marketing trackers or social media ad pixels.
To help us understand how the site is used, we track visitor numbers using a privacy-first tool (Burst Statistics). This collects anonymous data locally on our server and does not place tracking cookies on your device.
We only use Essential Cookies that are strictly required for the website to work:
• Member Accounts: To keep you securely logged into your profile dashboard via Ultimate Member.
• Bookings & Payments: To remember your event selections and manage membership payments securely through WooCommerce and our payment processors (which use secure data to detect and prevent fraud).
2. Membership & Directory Profiles
When you register as a SELTA member, we collect the details required to manage your membership and set up your account.
Information displayed publicly in the Find A Translator and Publications directories (such as your profile description, contact links, and past publications) is completely controlled by you. You can update or hide this information at any time by logging into your account dashboard. If you require assistance to do so, you should contact the Webmaster.
3. Contact Forms & Inquiries
When you get in touch with us through the website, your data is handled as follows:
• General Inquiries: Messages sent via the standard contact form are directed to the SELTA Secretary. They may be shared with the Committee or the wider membership if relevant to resolving your query.
• Translation Requests: Inquiries sent via our work request form are automatically circulated to all SELTA members who have opted in to receive freelance translation alerts.
4. Your Rights
Under UK data protection laws, you have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, or ask us to delete your account entirely.
If you have any questions or wish to exercise these rights, please get in touch with the Secretary via our contact page.
