Henning Koch moved to England as a child and was brought up in Hampshire and London. He graduated from Bedford College, London University in 1984 (English Literature BA Hons.). In his younger years he travelled extensively and lived in New York, Barcelona, Berlin, and Sardinia. He speaks Italian more or less fluently and reads Spanish competently.  

Henning Koch translates mainly fiction and non-fiction, but he has become a specialist at screenplays: his translation of Tarik Saleh's "Boy from Heaven" won Best Script at Cannes Film Festival 2022. 

His translation of Fredrik Backman's "A Man Called Ove" was a commercial hit, selling some 4 million copies in the English-speaking world. 

Henning Koch is a recipient of numerous Swedish Arts Council awards. He has twice adapted Swedish plays for successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

His work has been extensively reviewed in publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Guardian.

Henning Koch has three sons aged 8, 12, and 34. He lives on Öland in the Swedish Baltic.
