Skilled in translating Swedish literature into English, with a focus on humour and magic
Paul Gustav Whittaker, DPhil, FRSM, was born in Finland and grew up in England. As a child, he was bilingual in English and Swedish. For 42 years, he worked as a Clinical Scientist in Women’s Health, first at Newcastle University’s Medical School and later at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA. He has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers. Since academic retirement, he is focused on translating Swedish literature into English. He has also recorded music in the genre of 'alternative singer-songwriter' (2 albums and an EP, using the name Gustav Whittaker), available online. He continues to be inspired by the sights and sounds of lake and sea, the rhythms and cadences of world music and by those striving for social justice.
